SCR05-Touch-Illust-120
But enough about the form of this publication, let’s talk about its content. Sculptors deal daily with design issues such as shape and form. These design characteristics are at the foundation of all three-dimensional work. Photographers, too, have essential design characteristics that underpin all of our work. For me, one of the most important is tone. The life of our images is as much drawn from how we record and re-present tone, as it is based on frame composition, subject selection or shooting prowess.

SCR06-Step-By-Step-120
In this issue of  we take some time to look at this pivotal area of our media. We start with a discussion based around porting Zone System ideas to the digital photography age, then move through an overview of the tools and features used to tweak our tones in Photoshop, Lightroom and Photoshop Elements and then we present the essential techniques you need for the ultimate control of tones in your photo – in all programs.

SCR04-Folio-120
With over 100 dramatic examples in his present ‘Exterior’ series, Kelly Castro, should know a thing or two about creating a compelling portrait. In this issue we not only showcase his work but we also look a little deeper into the tonal tweaking techniques he uses.

SCR07-Free-Pane-120l
To coincide with the tonal control techniques we have produced a new   custom panel for Photoshop CS4 and CS5 that enables single button creation of sophisticated luminosity masks, and yes, it also includes a video tutorial detailing how to use the masks to professionally tweak the tones of your photo. Just click here to download these panels for free.

Enjoy!
